MUDDY CREEK TWP — Officials have identified the man missing at Moraine State Park.
Walter Powell, 51, of Richland Township, Allegheny County, was last seen about 7 p.m. Thursday launching a red canoe from the Bear Run Boat Launch on the park's South Shore.
Jake Weiland, assistant park manager, said a search for Powell began at 8 a.m., which was when park officials were notified that the he was missing.
Officials said Powell's son went to the park this morning and found his vehicle in the parking lot.
Emergency crews from Portersville, Unionville, and Prospect volunteer fire departments and park rangers are assisting the county's water rescue team in the search. Emergency helicopters are also assisting.
