John C. Mikan
John C. Mikan, 77, of Monroeville passed away Thursday in his home with his wife and children at his side after fighting a hard battle with cancer.
John was born in his Trafford home on April 25, 1938, son of the late Ivan and Mary (Belli) Mikan.
John, a graduate of Trafford High School, served six years in the Army Reserves.
He took great pride in his career as a car dealer and co-owner of Mikan Pontiac with his brother Robert.
John was a passionate devotee of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
He was a beloved husband, stepfather, and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his mother, Mary (Belli) Mikan; his father, Ivan Mikan; and his canine friend, Bee Gee.
John is survived by his wife Starr (Matis) of 37 years; his son, Dean Matis (Carol Michel) of Butler and Melissa Matis of Monroeville; his grandchildren, Adam Matis (Chelsea), Nathaniel Matis, Marissa Matis and Caleb Matis; his brother, Robert Mikan (Nancy); two nieces and a nephew; and his dog Skippy.
MIKAN — Family and friends of John C. Mikan, who died on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home, 702 7th St. (State Route 130), Trafford.Parting prayers will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Regis Church Trafford with the Rev. David Nazimek as celebrant.Entombment will follow with military honors in New St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, N.
