BUTLER TWP — Alexis Schrecengost tallied 11 kills and 12 digs Monday as the Butler County Community College women's volleyball team defeated Jamestown Community College, 3-1.
Scores in the match were 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17. Baylee Verner had 10 kills, Macy Smolic nine kills, Christina Davis eight kills and 17 blocks, Lexie Graham 35 assists and 15 digs.
Now 20-4, the Pioneers host the WPCC Tournament Saturday. First match is 10 a.m. against the Community College of Beaver County.
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Mars graduate and Monmouth University sophomore kicker Matt White has been named STATS Inc. National Special Teams Player of the Week and Big South Special Teams Player of the Week.White kicked a game-tying 35-yard field goal with no time left in regulation against No. 22 Liberty, then booted a 37-yarder in overtime to give Monmouth its first win over a ranked opponent.White also punted seven times for a 36.6-yard average and had three punts inside Liberty's 20-yard line.
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has not had a second surgery on his broken left fibula, coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.Pouncey was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list after being injured in a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. There were multiple reports last week that Pouncey had developed a complication from the initial surgery and would require another operation. Tomlin did not elaborate beyond denying the reports.
