Woman suffers broken leg in suspected drug deal

A purported drug deal gone wrong left the would-be buyer with serious injuries when she was thrown from the alleged seller’s pickup truck, Butler police said.

Police on Monday charged Travis R. Pratt, 27, of Grove City with felony and misdemeanor charges in the incident earlier this month in the city.

Brittney Rudolph told officers that she was walking in the 100 block of West Jefferson Street shortly before 1 a.m. Oct. 4 when she saw Pratt in his parked truck.

The 31-year-old Butler woman ran over to the pickup and stepped onto the running board, asking Pratt if he could get any crack cocaine, according to court documents. Rudolph said she handed him $20 for the drugs.

He is accused of taking the money and speeding away, throwing Rudolph off the truck. He drove over her left ankle.

She dragged herself to a nearby home and had a friend call 911, authorities said. A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to her before taking her to Butler Memorial Hospital.

Police said Rudolph eventually underwent surgery for a broken left leg and ankle. During the operation, several plates and pins were placed in her injured limb.

District Judge Pete Shaffer on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Pratt on a felony charge of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.
