Harry Franko Jr.

Harry Franko Jr., 92, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday in Houston.

Born Nov. 22, 1922, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Harry Franko and Julia (Druga) Franko.

Harry lived in Butler most of his life, including three years in New Haven Court, before moving to Copperfield Estates in Houston, Texas, where he lived for the past four years.

Harry was retired from stainless processing at the Armco Steel plant in Butler, following 38 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, where he belonged to the Mens Club and had been an usher. He was also a member the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 778.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he had taken part in the D-Day invasion.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia E. (Young) Franko, who he married Sept. 25, 1949; one daughter, June Sneed; two grandsons, Joseph Sneed and Christopher Sneed; four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Mason, Khloe and Emarie; one brother, Frank Franko; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Sarver; his granddaughter, Gwen Sneed; four brothers; and a sister.

FRANKO — Friends of Harry Franko Jr., who died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Leo Schlosser, pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.Donations may be made to his family, to help with expenses.
