Charges filed against female streaker at SRU

She led police on chase across campus

SLIPPERY ROCK — An unruly streaker — a 23-year-old woman — is accused of leading Slippery Rock University police on a cross-campus chase.

The bare-skinned suspect ran down an embankment and into a pond during the bizarre pursuit earlier this summer, authorities said.

An officer eventually tackled the naked woman but not before pulling his Taser at one point, according to court documents.

SRU police Wednesday charged Creanna Martin, of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, with resisting arrest, open lewdness, disorderly conduct and drug possession.

The delay in filing the charges, said Police Chief Michael Simmons, was due to a separate but parallel investigation that is still ongoing. He would not elaborate.

Martin, who is listed as a student in SRU’s online student directory, could not be reached for comment.

Police first spotted the defendant, without her clothes on, about 5:25 p.m. July 31 near the Morrow Field House. She barely spoke to the officer but got into the back seat of the patrol car.

She refused to tell the officer her name or where her clothes were, documents said. Moments later, she took off running and screaming.

Officer Scott Haslett chased the nude runner into the field house. He trailed her to the women’s locker room, where he announced himself and pulled out his Taser, police said.

Martin allegedly burst out of a bathroom stall and dashed away, still screaming. She ran out of the building, down the Central Loop and into the West Lake parking lot.

Haslett, following in his patrol car, watched the woman run down the embankment and into West Lake Pond. When she emerged from the pond, she darted toward the Swope Music Building.

The officer got out of his cruiser and ran after her, eventually tackling her near Kiester Road. However, police said, she continued to resist.

Police did not find Martin’s clothes until two days later. Among her belongings, documents said, was a bottle of Adderall pills, a prescription drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

But the prescription belonged to a man, who claimed the defendant stole them from him, documents said.

Martin’s preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 2.
