Ceremony to mark hotel, garage starts

Butler will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Centre City project on Monday at the corner of East Jefferson and South McKean streets.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on the lot of the future Marriott Springhill Suites hotel.

Mayor Tom Donaldson said the groundbreaking will be for both the hotel and the city’s 230 space parking garage.

“I’m looking forward to this,” Donaldson said. “This project is finally going to happen.”

Thomas Construction of Grove City will begin work on the garage later this month. A timeline for the hotel has not been set.

The hotel, which will be owned by developer J.S. Capitol and the city redevelopment authority, and the parking garage will join the already completed Rite Aid pharmacy on Main Street as part of the Centre City project.
