Edith L. Croy Sims

Edith L. Croy Surrena Sims, 85, went home to be with our Lord and Savior at 8 p.m. Saturday at Jameson Hospital in New Castle after an extended stay at the L.C. Geri Care Nursing Home in New Castle.

Edith was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Nolan, W.Va., to the late Harry Bishop Croy and Lillian (McFarland) Croy.

She was married to her first husband, Ray E. Surrena, from 1947 to 1974. She married Tom A. Sims in December of 1975 and was married to him until his passing May 24, 2000.

She retired Oct. 9, 1992, as a licensed practical nurse from the Polk Center in Polk, Pa., and had been a nurse in her earlier years at the Bashline Memorial Hospital and the Grove City Bashline Hospital in Grove City, after which she worked at the Dixmont State Hospital in Kilbuck Township, Pa., before transferring to the Polk Center in Polk until her retirement.

She had attended the Bible Baptist Church in Mercer, Pa., for many years until she moved away from Grove City to live in Slippery Rock with her daughter, Sherry, and son-in-law, Mick Moyer, where she enjoyed working in the yard with her plants and riding quads with her great-grandson, her little buddy, Austin Dylan Blatt, who also helped to take care of her and her needs before going into the nursing home.

Edith Sims is survived by her children, Richard Surrena of Harrisville, Harry (Lenny) Surrena and his wife, Sandy, of Butler and Sharon (Sherry) Moyer and her husband, Harry (Mick) Moyer Jr., of Slippery Rock; her stepchildren, Mr. Thomas A. Sims III and his wife, Denise, Ms. Jennifer McKee, Mrs. Becky Montgomery and her husband, Jeffrey, all of Butler, and Mrs. Tracy Osborne and her husband, Dwayne, of Tennessee; her brother, Merle Croy of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Garnett Hedglin and her husband, Bob, of Clintonville, and Ruby Taylor of Sharon; and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death along with her parents and husband, Tom Sims, by her brothers, Eugene Croy, Harry Croy Jr., and Richard A. (Dick) Croy; her sisters, Helen Helmer and Zelma Heckman; her stepdaughter, Sharon J. (Sims) Fazzino; her daughter-in-law, Joyce (Warner) Surrena; her granddaughters, Tammy Lee Surrena and Tami Jo (Hoffman) Penny; and her great-grandson, Tim Hile.

SIMS — Friends and family of Edith L. Croy Surrena Sims, who died Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, may call to visit from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville, Pa.
