Woman sought in theft case targeting elderly

It didn’t take long for state police to recognize Ricki Lee Double on surveillance video as the woman suspected of stealing money this week from two elderly men while posing as an employee at an assisted living facility in Jefferson Township.

The 31-year-old suspect already has two dozen felony convictions and is awaiting trial in six other felony cases.

Armed with an arrest warrant signed by District Judge Sue Haggerty today, troopers are on the hunt for Double, who has no known address.

At the time of her latest alleged crimes, court records showed, Double was free on $5,000 bail in connection with her arrest in a distraction burglary in Butler.

In that case, city police said, she targeted a 67-year-old man at his Second Street home June 22. She showed up there and asked the man for bus fare. When he left to get it, police said, she walked into the house and stole $25.

She allegedly pulled a similar con April 20 at a home in the 200 block of East Penn Street in Butler, asking the 74-year-old resident if she could borrow hand tools and a glass of water.

While the homeowner was getting the items, the suspect stepped from the doorway into the home unnoticed and allegedly stole money from the victim’s purse.

She is awaiting trial in those cases as well as six others, almost all in which she allegedly preyed on elderly victims.

In addition to the state troopers who recognized Double from surveillance video inside the nursing home, investigators say they got corroboration from a source that knows the defendant even better than they do.

Double’s mother reportedly told investigators that she too had seen the surveillance tape and recognized her daughter.
