Group selling office
The American Red Cross of West Central Pennsylvania is selling its office building in Butler.
The agency announced Tuesday it will sell the yellow brick building at 312 Mercer St. and relocate to a smaller office in Butler County.
Mary Rogers, executive director, said in a news release the move is part of a long-term strategy that will enable the Red Cross to serve more people in the community.
“The Red Cross in Western Pennsylvania is looking at ways to save money that could in turn be used to serve more people,” she said in the release.
“We evaluated our space needs and found the building is larger than we need. The money we save will be used for providing services as disaster assistance, preparedness activities and services to military families.”
Rogers said the office would stay in the county but did not know if it would remain in Butler.
She did not know when the move would happen.
The Red Cross has occupied the building at the corner of Mercer and West Penn streets for a number of years.
“The building has been a great location for the Red Cross and has served us well, but we have to consider the cost-savings that a smaller office will offer,” Rogers said.
The American Red Cross of West Central Pennsylvania, which is part of the 28-county Western Pennsylvania Region, serves more than 650,000 people in Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties. It has four employees.
The Western Pennsylvania Region provides relief to the victims of more than 1,100 disasters each year, including nearly 150 in Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties.
