Leaking pipe, electric switch trigger fire call
WINFIELD TWP — A leaking water pipe above an electric switch box was blamed for a fire call early this morning at a home on Iron Bridge Road, authorities said.
But there was no fire, only an electrical smell that permeated the farmhouse and prompted the homeowners’ call at 12:01 a.m., said Chief Randy Brozenick of the South Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department in Armstrong County.
“The water pipe in the basement was dripping onto the electrical box and melted a switch,” Brozenick said.
Homeowner Jim Booher shut off the power and got out of the house with his wife, authorities said. No one was hurt.
Crews from at least three fire departments, including Winfield and Buffalo townships, got there and quickly learned there was no fire.
Firefighters were back at their stations by 1:10 a.m.
