There are some big games on the schedule this week.

Rivalry games. Key region, section and league matchups.

Even an intriguing non-section clash between two undefeated teams.

This is what high school football is all about.

What I need to be all about this week is wins.

As in 11 of them.

A good 11-0 week is what I need.

I am way off the pace I need to reach my victory goal this season.

While a 36-12 record may seem good on the surface, it isn’t good enough.

Let’s see if I can have a perfect week:

Clarion-Limestone 28, A-C Valley 8 — In this Thursday Night Special, the Falcons will show some grit, as they have all season, but will ultimately fall to the Lions.

Seneca Valley 37, Butler 12 — The Butler Eagle Traveling Trophy doesn’t travel again.

The Golden Tornado are coming off a disappointing loss to Shaler. The Raiders are coming off a solid three-touchdown win over North Hills.

Hampton 27, Knoch 11 — The Knights will keep this one close for awhile, but Knoch must find a way to score more points in this section this season.

Mars 37, University Prep 13 — University Prep throws the ball. A lot. Mars will be content with feeding Isaiah Johnson the ball 30 times and winning big.

CWNC 44, Riverside 16 — The Trojans roll on with another decisive win.

Steel Valley 29, Freeport 27 — This is the Game of the Week as far as I’m concerned and a real test to see just how good the Yellowjackets are.

Despite what I see as a close loss, Freeport is plenty good.

Hickory 24, Slippery Rock 17 — This has become quite the rivalry and this should be the Game of the Week 2.0.

Slippery Rock stung the Hornets at home last season by a touchdown. Hickory returns the favor this time around.

The Rockets have three of the top runnings back in the Butler County area in rushing yardage. It may take a more versatile attack to get the job done Friday.

Karns City 45, Moniteau 8 — In a rivalry game like this, all bets are off.

But the Gremlins are playing on a whole different level this season after a dismantling of Clarion last week.

Karns City’s running game runs deep and the Warriors may find the going rough trying to contain it.

Grove City 29, Titusville 23 — The Eagles desperately need a win and they’ll get it this week.

Redbank Valley 29, Union 20 — Wyatt Hetrick is the do-everything dude for Redbank. Union will have to find a way to slow him down to win this one.

Shady Side Academy 37, Summit Academy 18 — In the battle of the Academies, Shady Side finds a way to hold off Summit.
