Controlled burnings set in Zelienople
ZELIENOPLE — The borough volunteer fire department will do two controlled burnings this weekend as part of a training program.
The two houses on Clay Street were bought by the borough in April as part of its Main Street Revitalization project. The properties along with five others will be leveled and made into a municipal parking lot next year.
Fire department 1st Capt. Brian Dambaugh said the burnings will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The controlled burnings are designed to better train firefighters on battling structure fires.
The houses’ shells will still be intact and not be completely burned to the ground.
After training is complete, the houses will be demolished by mid-October.
Safe zones will be set up for bystanders who want to see the weekend training.
No traffic will be allowed to travel through Clay Street during the training.
