Some schools lose power after accident
BUTLER TWP — A one-vehicle accident on Evans City Road Monday morning cut off electricity to three Butler School District schools for more than an hour, but did not result in any major issues for the district.
The crash happened about 10:40 a.m. when a dump truck crashed into a utility pole at Evans City Road’s intersection with Linsdale Drive. Chief John Hays of the Butler Township Police said power was out for at least an hour.
About 1,800 customers were affected by the outage, and traffic lights along New Castle Road also were out for a while.
Superintendent Dale Lumley said three of the district’s buildings — the high school, the intermediate school, and Northwest Elementary — were affected by the outage.
Lumley said the buildings lost power about 10:45 a.m. and operated on backup generators until about noon, when power was restored.
He said the outage effected some lunch preparation work at the high school but did not result in any other problems.
