CRANBERRY TWP — The defending Class A Penguins Cup champion Mars Planets will make their Class AA debut during PIHL Premiere Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

The Planets will open the season against North Hills, which has made five straight playoff appearances.

Mars finished last season 20-5-1, losing to Bayard Rustin in the state championship game.

ERIE — Penn State Behrend sophomore goaltender Colton Smith, a Seneca Valley graduate, was named the ECAC South men's soccer defensive player of the week.He was chosen to the Blue Devil Classic All-Tournament team, making 11 saves to help the Lions finish 1-0-1.

ERIE — Butler graduate Rachel Weyand scored her second goal of the season and fellow Golden Tornado alum Taylor Troyan recorded the win in net to help the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team beat Mt. Union 3-1 Wednesday night.Taylor Troyan played the first half before giving way to her sister, Mackenzie, in net. Mackenzie recorded her first three collegiate saves.
