1 dies, 1 injured in motorcycle accident
ALLEGHENY TWP — A father of six was killed and his girlfriend seriously injured Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding crashed in northern Butler County.
State police suspect Lawrence Greg Tumlin Jr., 34, of Ellwood City was speeding when he lost control of his 2013 Harley-Davidson cycle on Foxburg Road in Allegheny Township.
Tumlin died instantly in the wreck about 4:30 p.m. His passenger, live-in girlfriend, 31-year-old Kristen Michelle Yurik, suffered a broken leg and apparent internal injuries, according to emergency officials.
Yurik was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. Her condition was not known this morning.
Tumlin was westbound on Foxburg Road, driving “at a high rate of speed,” according to a police report, when he traveled upon a curve.
The cycle traveled onto the north berm and hit a small mound of dirt and a drainage ditch, police said The bike crashed into a series of trees near the intersection with Parker Pike.
By the time medical crews from Emlenton Ambulance and Knox Ambulance reached Tumlin, he was dead.
He likely died instantly, said Butler County Coroner William Young III, who pronounced Tumlin dead at the scene.
Neither Tumlin nor Yurik was wearing a helmet.
A truck driver, Tumlin is survived by three sons and three daughters. The Marshall Funeral Home in Ellwood City is handling his funeral arrangements.
