Before joining the Marines, Florence worked for Saxonburg Ceramics as a payroll clerk. Later, she was a cashier for Shop & Save grocery store and a line worker for Penn Champ. She also had been the organist for the Westminster United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.

Florence was a 70-year member and past post commander of American Legion Post 683. She was also a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Women Association, Butler Chapter 45, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

Florence enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, baking, traveling, mowing grass, doing word search puzzles and spending time with her family.
