Emily S. Albert

Emily S. Albert

Emily S. Albert, 93, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Butler, passed away Friday in Rapid City.

Born Aug. 8, 1921, in Sacti Spiritus, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Regimo H. and Angela Cancio Hernandez.

In 1953, Emily, along with her family, emigrated from Cuba and settled in Butler.

She moved to Rapid City in 2012 to live near her son in the last special moments of her life.

Emily was a very strong woman in those last years — very determined to live and stubborn at the same time. She taught all to never give up and to make the best of every moment.

Emily is survived by her son, Jim Albert and his wife, Tammy, of Rapid City, S.D.

She is also survived by “the lights of her life,” her three grandsons, Zachary Albert of Rapid City and Josh and Bret Dumbaugh of Columbus, Ohio.

In addition, she is survived by one nephew and niece, who she adored, Carlos and Gabriella Albert of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her talented carpenter husband, Manuel Albert, who passed away Aug. 3, 2009; her daughter, Isabelle Dumbaugh, who passed away Sept. 25, 2010; and one sister, Argelia Hernandez.

Emily was a member of the Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
