Arthur D. Byers

Arthur D. Byers, 84, of Jefferson Township passed away on Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

Born Aug. 18, 1930, in Jefferson Township, he was the son of the late William Byers and Elsie (Drescher) Byers. Art was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Township, living on part of the same farm on which he was born.

Art was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1950. He worked for Local 154 as a boilermaker. He was a member of the Meridian Vets and the GraceWay Community Church. Art was well known in the area for his expertise on John Deere tractors, where he was known as Mr. John Deere. He and his wife, Betty, spent the last 38 winters in Florida.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Louise (Hartle) Byers, who he married Feb. 9, 1952. Also surviving are his children, Randall A. (Christine) Byers, Roger L. Byers, William F. (Patricia) Byers, Douglas B. (Terri) Byers and Susan L. (Frank) Zitzman; 13 grandchildren, Dea, Bryan, Jesse, A.J., Brandon, Stacy, Christine, Bradley, Brittany, Racine, Samantha, Shannon and Danniele; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis (Mary) Byers; and one sister, Clarenda Schoentag.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Byers; his grandson, Troy Zitzman; his brothers, Paul and Richard Byers; and his sister, Betty Vogel.

BYERS — A memorial service for Arthur D. Byers, who died Saturday, July 25, 2015, will be later.Memorial donations may be made to GraceWay Community Church, Pastor Dave West, 211 Evans City Road, Butler, PA 16001.Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.
