Son arrested in dispute
MIDDLESEX TWP — A 38-year-old man is accused of brandishing a large knife during a domestic dispute with his parents at the family’s home in the township.
District Judge Sue Haggerty on Monday arraigned Jeffrey P. McAfee on 14 charges in last week’s altercation that left both his parents injured.
The suspect is being held in the Butler County Prison on $35,000 bail.
Middlesex Township police were called to the McAfee home on Forsythe Road about 6:30 p.m. Thursday after the defendant clashed with his parents, according to court documents.
Regis McAfee told officers that his son punched him in the ribs. The punch knocked the elder McAfee to the floor and bloodied his knees.
At some point, documents said, the defendant wielded a knife with a 10-inch blade and cut all four tires to his father’s vehicle in the driveway.
The suspect also accosted his mother, Norma McAfee, grabbing her and ripping her shirt, police said.
She managed to get away from her son and flee to a neighbor’s house, where she called 911. But in her getaway, she injured one of her hands.
During the altercation at his house, McAfee allegedly broke a wooden waste basket, antique glass bowl and a telephone. He also punched holes in a wall.
After police got to the house, the defendant suffered an unknown medical problem and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. He was eventually released back into police custody.
McAfee is charged with two counts each of simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment, six counts of criminal mischief, and one count each of possessing a prohibited offensive weapon and disorderly conduct.
