2 SRU students injured in off-campus altercation

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Two Slippery Rock University students were injured during an altercation Saturday night outside an off-campus apartment building, authorities said.

One of the students was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital; the other was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The students, both men believed to be in their early 20s, suffered head injuries, emergency responders said.

State police are investigating but a report was not available this morning.

The incident happened in or around the parking lot of the Grove Apartments on Harmony Road during move-in weekend at SRU. Classes for students began today.

The Grove on Saturday hosted its “Epic Pool Party.” Police were called about 9:45 p.m. for a report of an unidentified person bleeding from the head after being assaulted in front of the apartment complex. A Slippery Rock EMS crew tended to the injured man who apparently hit his head on the concrete after being punched and knocked down. The man never lost consciousness and later was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian with a moderate head injury.

A second man, who also was reportedly punched, was taken by Slippery Rock EMS ambulance to Grove City Medical Center where he was treated for a head injury and released.
