Venango County man hurt in motorcycle accident

PLAIN GROVE TWP, Lawrence County — State police identified the motorcyclist badly hurt in a crash earlier this week on Interstate 79 near the Butler County line.

William H. Oliver, 57, of Polk, Venango County, was flown by medical helicopter to an Ohio hospital following the Monday night accident. A police report described his injuries as “major.” His condition was not known this morning.

Police said Oliver was traveling north on I-79 and pulling into a rest area shortly before 10 p.m. when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson.

The cycle struck the curb of a center divider in the rest area and fell onto its side. Oliver, who was wearing a helmet, fell onto the cement divider.

The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Slippery Rock EMS assisted police. A helicopter flew Oliver to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
