Seneca Valley OKs dance partnership

HARMONY — The Seneca Valley School Board on Monday night approved a partnership with the Community College of Beaver County to offer an associates degree for a Seneca Valley Academy of Choice dance program.

The program will run through June 30, 2020.

Assistant Superintendent Matt McKinley said, “We have had successful communication with CCBC about bringing in an associate degree partnership that students and parents will have an option if they complete a certain number of dance courses and other courses as part of that associates degree.

“When they walk out of here, they will obtain that degree from CCBC on completion of the program.”

Students will pay $100 a credit, and it is at no cost to the district, McKinley said.

The college looked at the district’s curriculum and determined some minor adjustments are needed to the class names to make them fit with the curriculum at the college.

With administrative approval, students can begin working toward the degree as freshmen.

McKinley said the degree could benefit students trying out for dance institutions.
