The chairman of the Butler County Democratic Committee is in the hospital following an aneurysm.

Georgiann Kerr suffered the medical condition about 5 a.m. Wednesday, said Kevin Boozel, a Democratic committee member. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by ambulance and treated.

Boozel said she will be in intensive care for the next several days. He said the family is requesting no visitors at this time, but said they would accept flowers and cards.

Kerr, of Lancaster Township, became chairman in 2011, after Larry Kreiss resigned.

By fall, a $250,000 PennDOT project will have made the city more friendly to pedestrians with disabilities.From Wayne Street to Penn, the intersection curbs are being replaced to comply with federal Americans With Disability Act standards.Arthur Richards, a civil engineer with PennDOT said the project should be completed by September.Shield Paving, the contractor, has been finishing one side of the intersections at a time so that walkers still have a functional side to use.

Nearly 600 customers of West Penn Power in the area of Morton Avenue went without electrical service from about 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.A company spokesman said the outage occurred when a wooden support beam at the top of a pole broke. The spokesman said the outage initially affected about 2,000 customers.The company also reported more than 200 customers were without power in Clinton Township Wednesday afternoon.
