Hear the Echoes

Jason Brewer portrays Thomas Rainey Hoon, one of the local historical figures featured during last year's “Echoes From Our Past” program at the North Side Cemetery. This year's third annual walk will present the histories of seven area residents on Sept. 26 and 27.
Historical Society brings past to life in annual walk

The Butler County Historical Society will present the third annual “Echoes from Our Past — Historic Cemetery Walk” three times over a September weekend.

“Echoes from Our Past” brings history to life through costumed actors portraying the characters and events of Butler County’s ancestors on the grounds of Butler’s North Side Cemetery.

This cemetery walk does not consist of any ghost or fictional stories.

The endeavor is a collaboration between the historical society, the Butler Little Theatre, and the North Side Cemetery Association.

The characters featured will be: Robert V. Myers, William G. Douthett, Dorothy Schwab Sherwin, Anna H. Salak, R. Glenn Thompson, Peter A. Cummings and John V. Ritts.

Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sept. 26 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 27.

The tour lasts about 90 minutes at North Side Cemetery, 1002 N. Main St.

Tickets are available now, and sales will end at noon Sept. 25. No tickets will be available the day of the event. Tickets are available at www.butlerhistory.com or at the historical society office in the Senator Walter Lowrie House, 123 W. Diamond St., 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

Tickets are $14 for the general public and $10 for historical society members and BLT season ticket holders. Proceeds benefit the historical society and the Butler Little Theatre.
