Man hurt after crashing Harley

PLAIN GROVE TWP, Lawrence County — State police are investigating a motorcycle crash Monday night that left the driver hospitalized in Ohio.

Authorities did not immediately identify the man, who is believed to be in his 50s or 60s. He suffered a head injury in the wreck on Interstate 79 near the rest area in northeastern Lawrence County near the Butler County line.

The man was traveling north on a Harley-Davidson about 9:45 p.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle.

“It looked like he was trying to get off to the rest area,” said Chief Ken Taggart of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, suffered “road rash” and a moderate to serious head injury. He remained conscious but confused, authorities said.

There apparently were no witnesses.

“People at the rest area heard some commotion but no one saw the (crash),” Taggart said.

A Slippery Rock EMS crew tended to the man before a medical helicopter flew him to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. His condition was not known.

A police report was not immediately available.
