Robert Neil McCandless, 79, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Butler, the son of the late Eugene McCandless and Hazel (Matson) McCandless.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean War. He retired as a crane operator after 36 years at Armco.

Robert was a life member of South Butler Fire Dept., Slovak Club, Ridgway VFW, Kane Eagles Club, American Legion 778 (Lyndora) and Moose 64. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Tamara (Boring) McCandless, who he married Jan. 3, 1959, of Butler and his sister, Delores Hockenberry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
