Mary L. Griffith

Mary L. Griffith, 66, of South Second Avenue, Greenville, passed away Tuesday morning at her home after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

She was born July 8, 1949, in Washington, D.C., to Wallace B. and Mable W. (Clark) Simmons.

She was a 1968 graduate of Greenville Senior High School.

Mary had been previously employed at Thrift Drug and Eckard Drug stores in Greenville, and since 1999, she had been employed at Wal-Mart in Hempfield Township.

She was a member of the Greenville Family Moose Center 276. Mary loved to read, take walks, spend time with her “Golden Girls” and most importantly, be around her family, especially her grandchildren.

On Jan. 15, 1970, she married Alvin H. “Red” Griffith, who passed away Aug. 8, 2006.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Hopkins and her husband, Greg, of Greenville; two sons, David A. Griffith and his wife, Jennifer, of Butler and Daniel L. Griffith of North Versailles, Pa.; three sisters, Millie Hewlett and her husband, Willis, of Fallbrook, Calif., Carol Davis and her companion, John Shilling, and Ruth Simmons and her companion, Jimbo Gruver, all of Greenville; one brother, Harry Simmons and his wife, Nancy, of Greenville; and five grandchildren, Taylor Hopkins, Jacob Hopkins, Abbie Griffith, Drew Griffith and Maria Griffith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one sister, Shirley Dickson.

GRIFFITH — Friends of Mary L. Griffith, who died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville,Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Peters, pastor of Fredonia Presbyterian Church, officiating.
