Mingle on Main events still on tap for rest of summer

SAXONBURG — The borough has two more Mingle on Main events planned this summer.

The next one is set for Thursday and the final one will be Sept. 17.

“They’ve been doing very well. Each one has been bigger than the one before it,” said Mandee Williams, the library director for the South Butler Community Library, who is involved with the event.

Discover Saxonburg came up with the event — which is designed to attract more people to the borough — after the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau had its annual Toast to Tourism event in Saxonburg in May. After that event’s dinner, attendees got a chance to walk around the borough’s Main Street. The group quickly developed the idea, and the first two Mingle on Main events were in June and July.

They feature live music, vendors and other entertainment. In addition, the library, shops and restaurants are open later than normal.

For the event, Main Street between Pittsburgh and Isabella streets will be closed from 5 to 8 p.m. Parking will be available at the fire hall, at downtown banks, Cooper Hall and on side streets.

Williams said businesses on Main Street have gotten into the spirit. She said the Saxonburg Hotel has been offering more live music and was grilling food. The library will be featuring giant versions of Jenga and Twister. Alpacas will be featured in a petting zoo.

For the final event in September, organizers are trying to get a show featuring hula hooping and twirling with fire, she said.

Williams said Discover Saxonburg hopes to hold the once-monthly event next summer as well.

“We hope so. It’s been successful enough that we can certainly make the argument for it,” Williams said.
