Rescuers seek man who was fishing

TOBY TWP, Clarion County — Rescue crews this morning returned to a pond where a 22-year-old man went missing Monday evening.

The man, who authorities did not identify, was last seen fishing at the pond on Henry Road in Toby Township shortly after 6 p.m., state police said.

The pond is located on private property near Rimersburg in an area referred to as “the cliffs,” Clarion County Emergency Services officials said.

The Butler County Water Rescue Team joined several other emergency rescue units in searching for the man Monday.

The Rimersburg Hose Company got the first call at 6:20 p.m., according to Clarion County Emergency Services.

East Brady and Parker volunteer fire departments and Clarion County divers were called a short time later. The Butler County dive team was dispatched at 6:55 p.m.

The Track and Trail Rescue Team from Jefferson County also assisted later that night.

The search was called off about 9:15 p.m.

Rescuers met at 8 a.m. today at the Rimersburg fire station before heading back to the pond to resume the search, authorities said.

Among the agencies participating this morning was the Shippenville Dive Team and volunteer firefighters from Rimersburg, Sligo and Hawthorne.
