John Embroski

John Embroski, 87, of Butler passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday at VA Butler Healthcare.

He was born and raised in Lyndora and joined the Air Force at an early age. In 1970, after 23 years of service, while stationed at Torrejon AFB in Madrid, Spain, he retired from the Air Force with the rank of chief master sergeant. He stayed in Madrid and for the next six years worked for Ford Motor Company of Europe. After returning to Butler in 1976, he went to work for and eventually retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He was an active member of the Disabled Veterans of America, the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Legion Post 778, the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association, the Wounded Warriors Association, the Slovak Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Christopher's at the Lake Catholic Church in Prospect.

He was an avid gardener, amateur winemaker, and lifelong golfer who had his first hole-in-one at the age of 82 at the Krendale Golf Club near his home in Butler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lenora of Butler; his son, Paul (Karen) of Oakton, Va.; his grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas, Allison and Erin, also of Oakton; his brother, Matthew (Karen) of Gainesville, Fla.; his loving niece, Diana Kelly (Larry) of Butler; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

EMBROSKI — Friends of John Embroski, who died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Geibel Funeral Home 201 E. Cunningham St. in Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler. The Rev. James Murphy, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
