Over the Top Fun
The name of the dinner show offering by Sing Hosanna! says it all: “Misdeeds at Mistletoe Mine, or The Sanity Clause.”
Characters include a villain, a prospector, a hero and heroine, a femme fatale and a sheriff, among others.
The villain of this vaudevillian-style show, William Z. Lucifer, is being played by Max McAuley of Butler.
“He's a very Snidely Whiplash (archenemy in Dudley Do-Right cartoon) sort of character complete with top hat, mustache and wacky schemes,” McAuley said.
He has acted in Sing Hosanna! shows before and in shows at Knoch High School.
The poor orphan girl in “Misdeeds” is being portrayed by Amelya Lyon of Cabot. She describes her character, Holly Hock, as a “cheerful, optimistic girl who sees value in even the simplest of things.”
“I had never heard of the play before I was asked to do it, but I'm very grateful to have gotten the chance,” Lyon said.
“I joined Sing Hosanna! earlier this year, my first show being 'Oliver!,' and I know most of the other actors and have worked with them before, one of them, Nicole Ambrose, being the one who introduced me to Sing Hosanna!”
Nikki Ambrose of Cabot is playing the heroine, Rose Bush.
“Rose is an innocent and kind woman with strong morals and a good heart,” Ambrose said.
“She cares deeply for her niece, Holly Hock, and does all she can to take care of her. Her belief in the triumph of good over evil (along with her handsome hero, Redmond Wood) keeps her going even in the hardest of times.”
Coming south from Grove City to play the hero of the show, Redmond “Red” Wood, is Jayson Reppart.
“He is the hero of the story but isn't the most heroic,” Reppart said. “He is in love with Rose Bush but has a scandalous secret that might jeopardize their relationship.”
Playing Chiquita Rosarita Ricardo is Alisha Stephenson of Butler.
“She is sort of a play off of Ricky Ricardo from the show 'I Love Lucy.' She is a misguided woman who has fallen into bad company one too many times,” Stephenson said.
Audiences should expect a funny show in addition to a Christmas-themed “Yule Fall Inn” menu for this dinner theater Aug. 15 at St. Peter's Parish Hall on Franklin Street.
The actors and audience have a lot of interaction, Ambrose noted.
“The funniest part is the overall over-the-topness of the show,” said Reppart.
“It's very melodramatic which is fun. Audiences should expect a zany tale with crazy characters.”
All that plus a full menu and Christmas cookies too!
Also performing in the show are Dale Riemer, Corbin McCollough and Malachi Stephenson.
Directing is Ralph Christy Jr.
