KITTANNING — A woman killed last week following the escape of a prison inmate now charged in her death has been laid to rest.
More than 100 people gathered Monday at a Kittanning funeral home to honor Tammy Long, 55.
No eulogy was delivered at the Kennedy and Blodgett Funeral Home, but relatives sobbed throughout the ceremony. Many who attended described Long as a kind, caring and warm person.
Robert Crissman, 38, is charged with homicide, theft, escape and aggravated assault following his escape Thursday from the Armstrong County jail.
Long's body was found that afternoon at a home about a mile away from the jail. A coroner said she was strangled and beaten. Crissman was arrested the next day following a chase.
PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh man was sentenced to 12 to 30 years in prison for his involvement in a 2013 city robbery that ended with the victim being shot to death.Desmond Young, 22, pleaded guilty in April to third-degree murder and robbery charges in the death of 21-year-old Omar Islam. He was sentenced Monday.Prosecutors said Young and two other men approached Islam as he was sitting on a bench at the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway just before midnight in Oct. 2013.Deputy District Attorney Ilan Zur said 17-year-old Jordan Bey shot Islam several times.
