After 65 years, Lloyd-Johnson Co. closing on Main Street

A longtime office furniture business on Main Street is closing after 65 years.

The Lloyd-Johnson Co., 231 S. Main St., will close at the end of August due to declining sales.

“It's a sign of the times,” said owner Brian McGonigle. “Having a small business is a struggle. We worked hard at it and enjoyed it.”

McGonigle said David Lloyd and John Johnson bought the office supply company on Main Street in 1950 and renamed it the Lloyd-Johnson Co.

Harold and Mary Lou McGonigle — Brian McGonigle's parents — bought the store in 1984.

Brian McGonigle said he and his wife, Tricia, took over ownership of the store when his father died 12 years ago.

Five years ago the store relocated across Main Street to its current location.

The business sells office supplies and furniture and contracts the delivery of furniture.

McGonigle, who has worked for the company since graduating from college in 1986, said it has been a pleasure to serve Butler for so many years.

“We've had a lot of great customers' support through the years,” he said. “But it's time to move on.”

The building is owned by Jim Taylor.

The business has five employees.
