WEST SUNBURY — Rider Lutheran Church, 189 Rider Church Road, will host a strawberry festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The menu will include hot sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, side dishes, ice cream, strawberries, shortcake and beverages.

Visitors also can bid in a Chinese auction.

Lifesteps' Early Education Center, 383 New Castle Road, is still enrolling children for the Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts Summer Kindergarten Readiness Program.The free program is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3 to Aug. 14. Participation can improve skill comprehension and help long-term retention.To participate, children must be registered to start kindergarten in the fall of 2015 and families must meet income requirements for Pre-K Counts.To enroll or for more information, contact Samantha Farrell, supervisor, Children's Services, at 724-283-1010.

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host a Frozen Pool Party from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 1, rain or shine, at Alameda Waterpark, 183 Alameda Park Road. The movie “Frozen” will be at 8:30 p.m.Favorite characters Olaf, Anna and Elsa will attend. Snow cones and crafts to make will be available for children.Tickets will be sold in advance at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department office, 184 Alameda Park Road. Lifesteps will offer free Child Check screening for children from birth to age five:9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3, Butler YMCA, 339 N. Washington St.9 a.m. to noon, Aug. 17, Lifesteps Butler County Program Center, 383 New Castle Road.A Child Check visit takes about 30 minutes and the results are discussed immediately with the parents.The screening looks at the child's development in playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking.Appointments are recommended.
