CUTCHOGUE, N.Y. — A driver whose pickup truck slammed into a limousine on Long Island, killing four young women and injuring five other people, is being held on $500,000 bail after pleading not guilty at his hospital arraignment.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota and Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley plan to discuss the case at a midday briefing today.

Steven Romeo was arraigned Sunday on a misdemeanor DWI charge at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.

Flatley identified the dead as Brittany M. Schulman, 23, and Lauren Baruch, 24, both of Smithtown; Stephanie Belli, 23, of Kings Park; and Amy R. Grabina, 23, of Commack.

Four other women and the limo driver were hospitalized.

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — Former President George H.W. Bush was released from a Maine hospital Sunday, four days after the 91-year-old fell at his summer home and broke a bone in his neck.Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said that “a very grateful” Bush returned home to Kennebunkport from Maine Medical Center after treatment for a fractured vertebra.“He is in good enough condition that they can continue his recovery at home,” McGrath said.Doctors say Bush didn't suffer nerve damage when he fell Wednesday.
