Bertha Salony

Bertha Salony, 71, of Lyndora passed away Sunday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born June 21, 1943, in Butler. She was employed as a secretary by the U.S. Navy Department and had also been a secretary for a local attorney throughout her career.

She was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and the St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers Guild. She was a lifetime member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1998. Bertha had over 13,500 hours of volunteer service and was named the 2007 Auxilian of the year. Bertha had served in various areas of the hospital, and she was president, vice president, past president and corresponding secretary for the organization.

Bertha enjoyed playing board and card games with her family and was an avid Words with Friends player. Bertha loved collecting teddy bears.

She is survived by her loving family, daughter Mary Salony and Dean Rekich, and her beloved cat, Jack.

In addition to her mother, Mary Speicher, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Salony, who passed away Aug. 24, 1997.

SALONY — Friends of Bertha Salony, who died Sunday, June 14, 2014, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.Interment will follow at the West Sunbury Union Cemetery in West Sunbury.The St. Paul's Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church to recite the rosary.
