Fleeing robber fires shot at homeowner

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A Crab Run Road resident returned home Monday afternoon to find an intruder on her property, authorities said.

The suspect fled but not before firing a handgun at the woman. No one was injured.

State police are investigating, but there are no suspects. The intruder is described as a white man about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark T-shirt and a hat, possibly a baseball cap.

The case is being investigated as a robbery, Trooper Gregory Bogan said this morning.

The same house was burglarized in March, he said, but police have not determined if they are looking for the same suspect in both crimes.

The resident on Monday had left her house in the 200 block of Crab Run Road about two hours earlier and she returned between 11:55 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

“Upon returning home she observed the (suspect) fleeing from her residence,” Bogan said. She yelled at the intruder, who appeared to be carrying items from the home.

She said the man turned and fired a gun. Police believe the man shot at the woman.

The victim reported that she last saw the suspect running down Whitestown Road Extension.

Bogan said he believes the robber had a getaway vehicle nearby.

Police also are trying to identify the driver of a pickup truck that appeared near the scene within minutes of the robbery.

A photograph of the truck was taken by a trail camera. The pickup appears to be a late 1990s to early 2000s Ford F-150.

The driver is not a suspect but police believe he may have information about the crime.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.
