Bernice Mae Hamilton Beighley Hovis

Bernice Mae Hamilton Beighley Hovis, 91, of Slippery Rock, where she lived with her grandson, Alex Mysliwiec, passed away Wednesday after a brief stay at VNA Hospice in Butler.

Bernice was born on June 24, 1923, to Lee Roy Hamilton and Kathleen Dickson Hamilton. She married Clifford H. Beighley in May 1942. He preceded her in death. She married Pershing “Punch” Hovis on Oct. 12, 1985, and he passed away in 2000.

She was employed as a teacher at the New Castle School of Beauty Culture. Later she and her daughter, Pam, opened Compliments Style Center in Slippery Rock.

She was a Methodist, and she graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1942.

Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Jean Rider and her husband, Rich, of Boyers, Kathy Smith and her husband, Merle, of Oil City and Sharlene Margaret Christy and her husband, Denny, of Branchton, Pa.; one son, Dennis Clifford Beighley and his wife Deana of Mercer, Pa.; and a number of grand and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one daughter, Sandra Lee Hosack Bell; two sisters, Norma Rebecca Copeland and Hazel Lenore Sisilo; and a granddaughter, Lisa Hosack Rockwell.

HOVIS — The family of Bernice Mae Hamilton Beighley Hovis, who died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home.Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
