Frances L. Sheakley

Frances L. Sheakley, 82, of Bruin passed away Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1932 in Bruin, the daughter of Frank and Esther (Provit) Sindone.

She married her husband of 57 years, Richard H. Sheakley, and they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 15.

Frances was a member of the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend.

She worked at Witco as a maintenance secretary for 42 years before her retirement in 1996.

She was past president of the North Butler Embroidery Guild and the North Butler County Music Club. Frances sang in various cantatas and many weddings.

In her spare time, Frances loved to knit, crochet and especially to quilt, and she was a member of the Rivers Bend Quilt Club. Frances displayed many of her beautiful quilts at the Butler Farm Show, where she helped for many years. She accomplished making over 40 quilts and traveled throughout the United States with her husband to quilt shows. Frances along with her niece were the owners of the Tapestry Needlepoint Shoppe in Butler.

Frances was a great cook, and her friends and family could always count on enjoying one of her amazing Italian dishes. You could find her making apple dumplings and spaghetti sauce for the St. Mary's Church in Parker. Her door was always open to anyone who was hungry. Frances and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited many of the 50 states, including Hawaii and Alaska.

She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Sheakley; her son, Lawrence A. and his wife, Shellieann, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her daughter, Suzanne Balint and her husband, Matthew, of West Sunbury; four grandchildren, Jennifer Meyers and her husband, Brian, of Butler, Jessica Smith and her husband, Chris, of Saxonburg, Ashley Sheakley of Butler and Bradley Sheakley of Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Cienna, Myah, Macy, Lakota, Nacomi, Braden and Dillon; and many special nieces and nephews who were close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dominic Sindone; her sisters, Lena Mattace, Pearl Booher, Mary Kyle and Josephine Hobaugh; and one great-grandchild, Natika Nolder.

SHEAKLEY — Friends of Frances L. Sheakley, who died Sunday, May 24, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 102 S. Argyle St., Petrolia, where a wake service will be at 3:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, with the Rev. John Butler as celebrant.
