Cranberry to begin reviewing long-range plan

CRANBERRY TWP — Township officials will begin examining a wide range of community issues Tuesday when efforts to review and update the township’s long-range comprehensive plan start with a public forum.

The forum will be 6 to 8 p.m. at the municipal center, 2525 Rochester Road.

The forum is one aspect of a multipronged approach to assess more than a dozen issues facing the township that were included in the 2009 comprehensive plan. The township also will engage citizens with three online surveys and a table at CTCC Community Days on July 9 to 11.

A public meeting will be Sept. 29 to review the results.

Kathleen McCaig, a planning specialist with the township, said the update is sort of like a “progress report” on the 2009 comprehensive plan.

“We’re not getting rid of the comprehensive plan,” McCaig said. “It’s not creating a new comprehensive plan. The current one runs through 2030.

“The update is really a chance to report back to the community about what we’ve accomplished,” she added. “And to get feedback and understand additional strategies to use.”

McCaig said there are 13 categories in the plan, including areas such as traffic management; land use zoning; public finances; recreational opportunities; cultural resources; waste collection; utility services; public safety and economic development.

On Monday, the first of what will be three online survey forms will go live. The survey has 10 questions for residents plus an 11th “question” will ask for additional comments from respondents.

The first survey will be online from June 29 until July 5; the second survey will be online on July 6 to 12, and the third survey will run July 13 to 20.

The surveys can be accessed at www.CranberryTownship.org/CranPlanUpdate.

For the less Internet savvy, McCaig said, “We’ll also have this in a paper format if they prefer to do it that way.”

The paper surveys will be available in the municipal center.

Citizens can also e-mail their feedback directly to the township offices at the e-mail address: planning@cranberrytownship.org.
