Pennsylvania lawmakers sound off on court ruling
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, of Butler again restated his opposition to the Affordable Care Act in response to the Supreme Court ruling Thursday that upheld the government providing financial aid to many people for health insurance premiums.
In an e-mail statement, Kelly said, “The Affordable Care Act has proved to be unaffordable for millions of Americans, including thousands in Western Pennsylvania. It is forcing premiums and deductibles to rise and quality of medical care and innovation to drop. It is hurting our economy and stifling job creation.
“Obamacare should still be fully repealed and replaced with a patient-centered alternative that helps the most vulnerable among us without disrupting anyone’s coverage.”
U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., said in a statement Thursday, “Today’s court ruling does not change the fundamental fact that ObamaCare is inflicting widespread damage on our economy and our health care system.
“I will continue to work toward replacing ObamaCare with common sense reforms that allow families to access affordable health coverage and put Pennsylvania’s patients — not Washington bureaucrats — in charge of their own medical care.”
However, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pa., supports the court ruling. He said on Twitter that “the Supreme Court made the right call.”
