Mars II enjoying 10-2 start

Mars II improved its Eagle County League-best record to 10-2 with a 4-1 victory over Mars at Marburger Field on Wednesday.

Alex Ziegler had two base hits and one RBI in the win. Eric King singled and scored twice, Darren Blakeley singled twice while Tim Geibel and Danny McGrath both singled and drove in one run.

Alex Carravella pitched 3 1/3 innings for the win, fanning four and walking none.

Brandon Wissinger hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Saxonburg a 6-5 walk-off win over Zelienople Wednesday night at Butler County Community College.

Saxonburg (9-5) entered the final frame behind 5-4 after Zelienople (3-12) plated two runs in the top of the inning. Andy Fritz tied the game with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to set up Wissinger’s heroics.

Cory Podvasnik earned the win for Saxonburg, striking out one batter in one inning of work. Todd Forsythe took the loss for Zelienople, striking out one in one inning pitched.

Forsythe also singled and doubled.

Matt Baranchak had a big day batting for Saxonburg with three singles. Dustin Uhlman also had a single, double and drove in a run, while Ryan Fennell doubled and drove in a run.

Rob Lipke singled three times and drove in a run to lead the Mars Sliders’ 11-hit offense in a 7-6 win over Freeport at Swartz Field.

Matt Lazor added a pair of base hits, Ryan Wotus doubled and Noah Gasparin tripled for the Sliders (3-9).

Nick Comport picked up the victory, striking out four and walking three in a complete game.

Nolan Fetchko singled twice for Freeport.
