Haslett joining PSU as consultant
Former New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett has joined Penn State’s football team as a consultant, the Nittany Lions said Wednesday.
Haslett, a native of Pittsburgh, coached the Saints from 2000 through 2005 and led the team to its first playoff win. His most recent position came with the Washington Redskins, where he spent the last five years as defensive coordinator.
Coach James Franklin’s statement announcing the move did not mention whether Haslett would work in any specific area on offense, defense or special teams.
“Jim has an outstanding football mind and invaluable experience that will be a tremendous resource,” Franklin said. “He has great knowledge of the game at the next level and we plan to put that to good use.”
Penn State and Temple announced that their season opener on Sept. 5 at Lincoln Financial Field will start at 3:30 p.m.
