Dr. Steven P. Shidemantle, 48, died from cancer on Monday at his home in Texarkana, Texas.

Steve is survived by his wife, Debora Kaminsky Shidemantle of Texarkana, Texas; his children, Steven David of Texarkana, Texas, Joelle Nicole of Butler and Ross Patrick of Texarkana, Texas.

He is also survived by his parents, Kathleen and David Shidemantle of Harmony; and his sister, Jennifer Shidemantle Morris of Hudson, Ohio.

Steve was born on Aug. 11, 1966, in Butler.

Upon graduation from Butler High School in 1984, he entered the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant after serving from 1985-1992.

Steve graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1996 with a B.S. in secondary education: science.

He taught high school physics and natural science in Edgewood, Md., and Kiski, Pa., from 1996 to 2001.

Upon receiving a full fellowship to Texas A&M University, Steve and Debbie moved to College Station, Texas in 2001 where he began his Ph.D. studies.

In 2003 they moved to Katy, Texas, where Steve became the assistant principal at Katy Junior High School as he completed his doctoral dissertation.

In June of 2008, Steve received his Ph.D. in educational administration. After holding positions at Purdue University and the DODEA, the family moved to Texas A&M University Texarkana in 2013 when Steve accepted the position of assistant professor of educational administration.

SHIDEMANTLE — Visitation for Steven P. Shidemantle, who died on Monday, May 18, 2015, is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at East Funeral Home.
