The Old Stone House will offer “Foodways Programs,” a series of summer-fall cooking classes. Classes run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with hands-on training. Bake oven classes are Saturday and July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19. Open hearth cooking classes are July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10. The Old Stone House, at the intersection of Routes 8, 528, and 173 in Brady Township, is owned and operated by Slippery Rock University.

Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., Harmony, hosts tours from 1 to 4 p.m. daily except when the museum is closed Mondays. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and $3 for youths ages 6 to 17. Call 724-452-7341.

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, Avella, Washington County, will host its 18th annual atlatl competition from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can try using the atlatl, a spear-thrower used by prehistoric hunters. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, and $6 for children ages 6 to 17.

PITTSBURGH

Carnegie Science Center, North Side, hosts Snowball Day on Sunday, the summer solstice, when visitors can bring the frozen snowballs they saved from winter and name their own admission price. They can also slingshot the snowballs into the Ohio River from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. USS Requin behind-the-scenes “Tech Tours” are 9 to 11 a.m. June 28; July 12 and 26; and Aug. 9 and 23. Participants must be age 15 and older. Tour cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Advanced registration is required. Call 412-237-1637.

Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park offers the exhibit “Captured by Indians.” Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $3 for children ages 6 to 17, and retired and active military personnel. Visit www.heinzhistorycenter.org.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 700 Frank Curto Drive, continues the Summer Flower Show through Oct. 5. The Butterfly Forest is open through Sept. 7. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., continues the “We Can Do It!” exhibit exploring Western Pennsylvania’s impact on the home, industrial, and battle fronts during World War II. Visit www.heinzhistorycenter.org.

National Aviary, 700 Arch St., will open the Condor Court at 10 a.m. Friday. The outdoor show “Soar!” runs at 3 p.m. daily on the SkyDeck. Featured are the aviary’s newest raptors, a pair of bateleur eagles. The aviary is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. ToonSeum, Pittsburgh’s Museum of Cartoon Art, 945 Liberty Ave., displays “Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream,” featuring the original work by dozens of contemporary artists interpreting cartoonist Windsor McCay’s comic strip, through June 28.Admission is $8 for those over age 13 and $4 for children 6 to 12. Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland, hosts “Animal Secrets” through Jan. 10, 2016. The exhibit is designed for children ages 3 to 8. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays with extended hours until 8 p.m. Thursdays.
