Mancini Awards Students capture honors
MIDLAND, Beaver County — The 21st annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards Ceremony was held May 30 at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.
Nominations for awards for outstanding student achievement in musical theater included students from 33 schools in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties.
Butler County students swept the category as honorees for outstanding leading actress.
Honorees were Jordan Lutz as Reno Sweeney in “Anything Goes” at Knoch High School; Britney Yauger as Truly Scrumptious in “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” at Portersville Christian School; and Rachel Carmella as Wednesday Addams, and Hayley Hoss as Morticia Addams, both in “The Addams Family” at Seneca Valley High School.
In addition to the actress awards, Seneca Valley’s production of “The Addams Family” scored the most awards of Butler County schools as outstanding in the categories of overall production, overall performance, technical execution, ensemble, vocal ensemble, and community engagement.
Mars High School’s “Shrek the Musical” garnered an award for outstanding in overall performance.
Mars’ Hunter Baselj as Donkey was an honoree for outstanding leading actor, and Nick DeLeone as Gingy was an honoree as outstanding noteworthy individual.
Knoch High School’s “Anything Goes” was an honoree in the outstanding student orchestra category.
And Knoch’s Addy Albert as Erma was an honoree for outstanding supporting actress.
Karns City High School’s “Shrek the Musical” was honored in the following categories: Shaun Klein as Pinocchio in the outstanding supporting actor category, and the Three Pigs in the outstanding noteworthy group category.
Other area honorees recognized for outstanding noteworthy group were the Drummers in “Disney’s Peter Pan” at Evangel Heights Christian Academy in Sarver, and the Ancestors in “The Addams Family” at Slippery Rock High School.
Outstanding noteworthy individual awards also went to William Craig as Wolf in “Shrek the Musical” at Karns City, and Nathan Rogalski as John Darling in “Disney’s Peter Pan” at Evangel Heights.
