Hard rain causes flooding throughout county
The effects of the stormy weather Sunday night continue into this morning in Butler County.
Butler Township is working to reopen Saw Mill Run Road, which is only open to emergency traffic from Butler Road to South Eberhart Road, according to Thomas Knights, township Public works superintendent.
Knights said Saw Mill Run and September Drive were both closed Sunday night after storms knocked trees across the roads.
Knights said that with more flash thunderstorms expected, homeowners should make sure any drains into catch-basins, roadside ditches or watercourses are free-flowing.
As of 8:30 a.m. today West Penn Power reported 140 customers in Butler County were still without electricity.
As of 8 a.m. today the Central Electric Cooperative reported 84 customers in Butler County were still without power.
County emergency officials had their hands full Sunday night with dozens of reports of flooding, downed utility lines,a
Jerry Andree, Cranberry Twpnship manager, said township officials measured 2.7 inches of rain in Sunday night and Monday morning, but no flooding.
Andree said the township volunteer fire company responded to eight reports of fires but that only one was serious — an attic fire at a home that Andree said was extinguished quickly.
Heavy rain caused flooded roads and basements throughout the county.
The county emergency center took 49 calls related to the bad weather from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.
