BlueSox beaten twice on road

Luke Valutis singled home Eric Peterson with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the winning run in Champion City’s 4-3 Prospect League baseball win over the visiting Butler BlueSox Sunday evening.

The game’s final run was charged to losing pitcher Cody Jackson, who pitched two innings of relief.

The Kings (4-6) completed the weekend sweep of Butler, which also fell 3-2 on Saturday.

The Sox (5-6) scored all three of their runs Sunday in the top of the fourth inning. Grove City High School graduate Alex Miklos paced Butler’s 10-hit attack with three singles and a run scored.

Butler High product Tyler Slepski started on the mound for the Sox, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Three Butler errors led to three unearned Champion City runs in Saturday’s defeat, including a miscue in the bottom of the ninth frame.

Butler starter Larry Wood (seven innings) and reliever Kyle Rago (two) combined to strike out eight and walk just one while surrendering seven hits.

Ty White singled, doubled and drove in two runs for Butler. David Marcus added a pair of singles and a run scored.
