Moraine State Park will host a kingfisher kayak program from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants may take their own kayaks (life jackets required), or borrow one of Moraine’s kayaks and equipment for free. Registration is required by calling the park at 724-368-8811 and noting if a kayak is needed. Participants must be at least age 12. An adult must accompany those under 18. Due to increased interest, participation in park kayak programs is limited to two programs per year.

The eighth annual Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous is Friday through Sunday at Cooper’s Lake Campground, 205 Currie Road, Worth Township. The event features more than a half dozen canoe manufacturers. There will be classes, demonstrations, displays and test paddling on the lake. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. For information, visit wpascr.org.

Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, has trails open from dawn to dusk, with dog-friendly walking trails, two ponds and spaces for outdoor activities and education. E-mail rhandel@aswp.org or visit www.aswp.org.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011.

REGION

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, off Route 422, opens the historic gristmill from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Interpretive tours are available at 1 and 3 p.m. most days. Additional tours for groups may be scheduled by calling 724 368-3612.
